Carlingford & Cooley Penninsuala
Only 20 minutes from Carnbeg Hotel and Spa lies Carlingford and the Cooley Penninsuala one of Irelands best kept secrets. This beautiful town lcatoted on Carlgford Lough is where Irelands Ancient East begins. Famous for it’s oysters in August the town is filled with vistors for the Oyster Festival but you can savour them any time of year.
The Cooley Penninsula is surrounded by Mountains with the Cooley Mountains and the Mourne Mountains a short trip accross the lough on the Fderry. Walkers, Photographers and anyone with a love of nature will be blown away by the beauty of this area.
County Louth has a rich history with Cuchulain, one or our great Celtic heros with great stories for you to trace accross the landscape here. St John’s Castle from the 12th Century towers over the lough, Carlingford Abbey and Taaffe’s Castle mean that there is lots to see and the town has gorgeous shops with lots of local crafts and art.
Carlingford Oyster Festival
Carlingford Oyster Festival takes place in August every year. The town of Carlingford comes alive with visitors and music trickles out onto the street for venus all over the town. This is a great festival to visit and the food from the sea and the lush green fields that surround the town is a real treat for the tastebuds.
